Applied Functional Polymers, Chair of Macromolecular Chemistry I
University of Bayreuth | KeyLab coordinator

Tailored synthesis of functional molecules, polymers, block copolymers and their structure/morphology studies and application in diverse devices. Specifically, we are interested in:

  • Functional chromophores and photoswitches:
Synthesis of fluorescent dyes, combination with photoswitchable units and optical transistors.
  • Conjugated polymeric mixed conductors and bioelectronics:
Synthesis of well-ordered conjugated polylmeric mixed ion-electron conductors and application in electrochemical transistors to detect and assay biological molecules and cells.
  • Fully functionalized / amphiphilic diblock copolymers for solar cell applications:
Polymerization methods such as NMRP, RAFT, KCTP to obtain tailored block copolymers to study microstructures and orientation of domains towards application in organic and hybrid solar cells.
  • Tailored solid-state polyelectrolyte ion-conductors towards all solid-state batteries:
Synthesis of bottlebrushes and “beyond PEO” electrolytes and fabrication of diverse cell geometries to study electrochemical properties as well as battery parameters using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cell cycling.
  • Device preparation and analysis:
Prototype Solar cells, Organic field effect transistors, Organic electrochemical transistors, and batteries and full device characterization of each.
