organic and biomolecular chemistry of nucleotides and nucleic acids, native RNA modifications and synthetic functional nucleic acids, including fluorogenic RNA aptamers, catalytic DNA (deoxyribozymes) and RNA (ribozymes); synthesis of modified RNA, RNA labeling, in vitro evolution of ribozymes, structural and mechanistic chemical biology of nucleic acid catalysis.
