Electrospinning equipment

Equipment for manufacturing thin polymer fibers or fibers from mixed materials in the micrometer range, by applying high voltage. The preparation from polymer solution or melt is possible. In addition, a range of collectors as plate, cylinder and rotating collector are available to generate randomized or orientated fibers or fleece.

Martindale

Testing equipment for abrasion resistance and pilling of textiles and non-wovens (fleece). The tests are on a high international and industrial level.

Vibrodyn

Tensile tester for mechanical tests on individual fibers, tests matching international and industrial standards.

The KeyLab Advanced Fiber Technologies combines the expertise of the Universities of Bayreuth and Würzburg in the field of fiber technologies. By combining existing methods as well as additive manufacturing techniques for the preparation of fibers, novel materials like porous or non-woven fibers as well as areas of applications including tissue engineering and filtration using custom-made structures become accessible. The available fiber dimensions range from the nanometer to the millimeter scale.

The development of novel methods for the preparation of fibers also allows the evaluation of so-far unexplored biopolymers as fiber materials. Innovative and sustainable value chains especially in the field of non-woven fibers with a high market potential for Bavarian companies are aspired.

The novel single filament spinning unit which has been established at the University of Erlangen complements the equipment of the KeyLab. Combined with the rheological and molecular characterization equipment available at the KeyLab, the single filament spinning unit allows for a holistic investigation of polymeric fibers from the molecular level to application-oriented properties.
